It is considered as the supreme dance form among all the others. It is known as the mother of all dances. Traditionally it is a solo female dance from the time it originated. It is believed that Bharatanatyam started in the premise of the Hindu temples of Tamilnadu and gradually gained popularity in the whole of south India. It is carried out in accordance with the Hindu religion.
A saint called Bharatha muni is the founder of the Bharatanatyam dance. At present this dance form is an unavoidable part of the temple festivals in the whole of south India speciality. Girls at a very young age go for a debut dance in relation with a temple festival and the process is called Aranghettom.
